Where to travel in August

For those seeking something truly uncharted in 2025, venture to Greenland. We’ve included it on our list of Where to Go in 2025. There, you’ll find surging landscape of straits, bays, glaciers, and mountains. It’s a true adventurer’s playground.

Make the most of the long summer days on a far-flung adventure to Norway’s Lofoten Islands. Waking up in a remote luxury fisherman’s cabin boasting magnificent views across the bay and beyond, get out to explore the last Norwegian wilderness.

With the arrival of summer, July brings warmer days and a more diverse repertoire of Icelandic activities. The landscapes emerging beneath the thawing snow. The Westman Islands, Snaefellesnes Peninsula, Reykjavik and the ‘Golden Circle’. Wild, dramatic, surreal.

We feel excited even writing this. A fulsome family destination with a huge emphasis on wildlife, nature and conservation. The cormorants of Fernandina, the dolphins of Isabela, and the cloud forests of the interior.

As our second home, we have a mass of local expertise (and fiercely guarded secrets) to put at your disposal. August is the perfect time to explore beneath the shade of Yosemite’s redwoods, raft Wyoming’s mighty Snake River or venture across Montana (another Future Fuel destination for 2025).

August is the perfect month to discover Borneo’s dizzying array of wildlife. Plunge through ancient tropical trees and blooming orchids in search of macaques, tarsiers and proboscis monkeys or take a private boat to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and get up-close and personal with the last of Borneo’s wild orang-utans.

By August, the Great Migration has made its way across the Mara River, emerging – in full flow – on the plains of the Kenyan Maasai Mara. As a great first-time safari destination, Kenya manages to be both accessible and dramatic.

The alternative safari destination. There’s less about wildlife here and a greater focus on landscape. With Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei, and the Skeleton Coast. Great for couples and older families, it’s one of the world’s best locations for stargazing.

This summer, we’re letting you in on one of Africa’s best-kept secrets. Morning game drives across the Savannah. Hippo-spotting canoe journeys on the Zambezi River. Helicopter rides above the roar of Victoria Falls. With so much variety, it is easy to see why Zimbabwe is one of our favourite intrepid safari destinations.

A wonderful destination for August, working well regardless of how long you have at your disposal. Island hopping, traditional fishing, oyster shucking. The vineyards of Istria, ancient ports, sublime coastlines and some legendary hotels that occupy restored historical landmarks.
